Hi, I am Gaynor Howden and I am the Base Leader for Acorns Base.
I am the class teacher in Acorn 1, Paige Jackson teaches in Acorn 2 and David Richards is the teacher in Acorn 3.
We are a very active Base and really enjoy lots of physical movement through our school day.
We have a large outdoor learning area with a climbing frame, slide and swings. We use the middle area to engage in a wide range of music and movement based activities, where all the pupils in Base can engage in meaningful, adult directed activities.
This term our Curriculum theme is ‘Marvellous Me’.
Acorn 1 – We have had lots of visits to see the doctor in Acorn 1; luckily it is all part of our role play surgery where we have had our eyes tested, used the stethoscope and had our blood pressure checked. Frances, our school nurse has been to see us to measure our height and weight. We have explored different ways to keep more physically active!!
Acorn 2 – We have been working hard on increasing our communication skills using visual supports, making choices about what activities we would like to do and where we would like to access in school. As part of our focus on ‘Marvellous Me’ we have been exploring food technology activities making lots of yummy food. We too like our friends in Acorn 1 have been to the Doctors Surgery and have been role playing how to use the different equipment we might find there.
Acorns 3 – We have been learning about ourselves. We have been exploring what our body looks like; drawing around each other and making clay people. As part of our exploration about keeping healthy we have been exploring and tasting different fruits and vegetables; remembering to wash our hands first and using kitchen tools safely.
