Music at High Park

As a school we recognise that music based skills are key within school, and can be utilised through everyday experiences.

We understand that Music is both a practical and creative subject which should be of benefit to all of our pupils in developing co-ordination, imagination, listening skills and the ability to express personal thoughts and feelings with sheer enjoyment and stimulation. We endeavour to teach them how to appreciate music in all forms and give them skills that enable them to participate fully in the making of music.

Music can inspire and motivate children, and play an important role in their personal development. Music can also help children develop a greater appreciation of the world we live in, by understanding and celebrating different cultures and societies through music.

Through the teaching of Music we aim to develop:

  • Pupils’ interest in, and enjoyment of, Music. By providing engaging and purposeful activities we aim to build on pupils speaking and listening skills and making effective and considered choices
  • A process of investigation and experimentation towards sound making and moving towards playing instruments in a more skilful and musical manner.
  • An ability to work both independently and in cooperation with others.
  • An appreciation and understanding of other cultures and societies
  • Pupil’s engagement and ability to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.

We have been working hard to explore and develop our musical abilities.

We have set up a Steel Pan club to explore the different sounds they make, to develop our confidence in playing a new instrument and to extend our musical talents…
